Transform Malawi by serving the physical, spiritual and social needs of orphans and vulnerable children.
THE NEED
According to the United Nations, Malawi is the poorest country in the world. Extended drought and HIV/AIDS have left thousands of orphaned children without adequate food, clothing or access to basic education. These children, especially the girls and young women are left vulnerable without advocates to champion their best interests.
THE WORK
LiAM provides food, clothing, and educational support for over two hundred children every day. Volunteers council, tutor, and advocate for the precious children that God has entrusted to their care. These tangible acts are accompanied by Biblical teaching and counseling, equipping a generation to meet the intense physical and spiritual challenges that they face.
THE TEAM
The LiAM team consists of three university-trained managers, seven aid workers, an accountant, and numerous local advisors. Financial and operational accountability is provided by a Board of Directors in Malawi and by Lampstand’s Assurance Team. More about Lampstand’s Assurance Team can be found

LiAm’s director, Phenious Chuma grew up with many of the same challenges facing the children he now serves. Phenious graduated from African Bible College in 2011 and has served as a development officer for Lilongwe city council, as an orphanage educator, and as the Global Village Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Malawi. Phenious is currently completing his studies toward a masters degree in Sustainable Communities.
THE INITIATIVE
iHouse is a unique community with a global heart. International students gather around a team of caring people learning to experience life together despite their differences.
THE PURPOSE
The International House of Flagstaff, commonly known as “iHouse”, is a unique family-like community consisting of a global heart and mind! Located within walking distance of Northern Arizona University, this international community contextually resides in a rich intermingling of cultures. Residents are international students from literally all over the world.
THE METHOD
Through iHouse, these young adults learn to experience life together despite differences in familial, governmental, religious and cultural backgrounds. It is truly a “bringing together” of the world. Most residents of iHouse have never been to the US before. Many have limited English-speaking abilities. All need the love and life-changing power of God.
THE INITIATIVE
LampStand maintains the Catalyst Fund to facilitate start-up operations for new initiatives, prior to their ability to raise funds directly and to infuse ongoing initiatives with needed capital at strategic times.
